READ THIS BEFORE EATING STRAWBERRIES!
My sister Colleen sent me this link this morning. Read this before you purchase strawberries. If this doesn't make you want to buy organic, I don't know what will! The neglect for the citizens of this country are absolutely unreal! The government and these large companies consistently ignore expert warnings on the dangers of things like this. A few of the large companies will probably profit multi millions off of this, but at what cost?
The continuing disaster in the Gulf of Mexico helps one see other regulatory controversies in a different light. Take, for example, the battle in California over the use of the pesticide methyl iodide, a chemical so toxic, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, "that even chemists are reluctant to handle it."
Methyl iodide, which according to chemist and pesticide expert Susan Kegley can cause neurological damage and fetal death in laboratory animals even at low doses and has links to thyroid disease, including cancerous tumors of the lungs and brain, is about to be approved for widespread use in the Golden State. It's a soil-sterilizing chemical meant as a replacement for the now-banned methyl bromide, an ozone-depleting chemical that's a key pesticide for conventional strawberry growers. The Bush EPA approved methyl iodide in 2007 over the objections dozens of scientists (including 5 Nobel laureates), in what Grist's Tom Philpott decried as an example of "unchecked crony capitalism." And now that tragedy is being replayed as a western farce.
As Kegley told the Chronicle, "The state's own scientists concluded that the chemical posed a potential risk to public health. The department then appointed an outside review panel, which essentially came out with the same results."
But no matter, says California's Department of Pesticide Regulation. They've got this whole thing under control:
[State spokesperson Lea] Brooks said the department incorporated many of the review panel's suggestions in the final risk assessment.
"However, the members are experts in assessing pesticide risks, not in regulatory risk management that leads to decisions on registration," Brooks wrote in an e-mail to The Chronicle. "Panel members were not familiar with the many options and measures that can be put into place by risk managers to avoid unsafe exposure levels."
"Risk managers?" You mean, like BP had to make sure all the safety protocols were followed? Or maybe she means the risk managers like the big banks used? In the 21st century, we've learned that the nine most terrifying words in the English language are, "I'm from Risk Management, and I'm here to help."
The plan is to use tarps and plant buffer zones and stuff. So chill out, people. It's not like anyone might ignore the rules, or take a shortcut, or something unexpected might happen, like a gust of wind kicks up and blows a tarp away. Not gonna happen.

TOXIC WASTE IN OUR WATER AND TOOTHPASTE
I promise I will give you all some uplifting posts here in the near future. I was talking to a friend today and she mentioned that relaying some of the tools I have used to stay in a positive frame of mind throughout this ordeal may be useful to others. I agree with her and will do that here in the next few posts.
I want you all to know that I am trying to get this information out to all of you with the intention of making people aware of the hidden dangers we face on a daily basis. I hope it makes you more aware and helps you make more informed decisions on living a healthier life, and hopefully avoiding a cancer diagnosis yourself. There is much to be done on the prevention side of things and I will do my best to relay all of the information I come across. The answer is in prevention and good health, not fattening the pockets of greedy pharmaceutical companies whose only goal is profit. Unfortunately, I have some more bad news for you all. That bad news in Fluoride. You probably see this advertised on tubes of your toothpaste to help fight cavities. Not only is it added to toothpaste to "prevent cavities" , it is added to the public water supply. This is unbelievable!!!!!! Here is a brief history lesson on Fluoride. Fluoride is a cumulative toxic waste, banned in 13 countries. This all began in the 1920's when aluminum manufacturing was booming. It was also the biggest producer of toxic fluoride waste. The cost to dispose this waste was extremely expensive so they were looking for creative ways to get rid of it. A company by the name of ALCOA came up with a brilliant idea to dispose of it. During this period, the US Public Health Service was under the jurisdiction of the Treasury of Secretary Andrew Mellon. Shockingly, he was also the founder and major stockholder of ALCOA. ( anyone sense where this might be heading?) So in 1931 a dentist by the name of H. Trendley Dean was sent to over 300 small towns in Texas where water wells contained high concentrations of organic, natural fluoride. He was sent to determine the safe amount of fluoride humans could tolerate without noticeable damage to teeth. He found that the teeth of these people with natural fluoride in the water were often discolored and eroded. He also concluded that they "appeared to have fewer cavities" than average. This is where the evil genius of ALCOA kicks in. A scientist by the name of Gerald Cox devised a way for ALCOA to profit off of the toxic waste that had previously been a problem due to the high costs of safe disposal. He declared that fluoride was good for your teeth ( THERE IS HAS NEVER BEEN ANY EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THIS!!!! EVER!!!!!) and proposed in 1939 that the US should fluoridate its water supplies. A scientist who was working and being paid by the largest producer of fluoride in the USA was the one who suggested and had it legally dumped into our water supply. Conflict of interest??????????????????
The aluminum industry was already marketing their toxic fluoride waste as an INSECTICIDE and RAT POISON. Obviously dumping their waste in the water supply would lead to a much larger customer base. In 1944 the American Dental Association warned " the potentialities for harm from fluoridation far outweigh those for good." These warnings were eventually ignored. In the 1950's the government officially endorsed fluoridation. Since then two thirds of the nations reservoirs have been fluoridated and almost 150,000 tons of toxic fluoride is pumped annually into our water supplies.
Calcium fluoride is found naturally in plants and water but that is not the type being pumped into our water supplies. The most common form used in our water supplies is hydrofluorosilici acid. Is is an EPA regulated toxic waste produced in the smokestacks of various industrial chemical producers. IT MUST BE DISPOSED AS A TOXIC WASTE YET IT IS PUMPED INTO OUR WATER SUPPLIES!!!!!!!!
It is illegal to take hydrofluorosilic acid and bury it in the ground or dump it into rivers or streams but it is legal to sell it to municipalities and drip it into the water supply. Fluoride is more toxic than lead and there are more than 500 peer reviewed studies documenting the adverse effects of it ranging from CANCER to BRAIN DAMAGE. Studies have shown that fluoride causes genetic damage at concentration levels as low as one parts per million. Exactly the amount in our water supply!
The first occurrence of fluoride in drinking water was found in concentration camps in Germany. They allegedly dumped fluoride into the water supply to sterilize humans and force the prisoners into calm submission. " The real purpose behind water fluoridation is to reduce the resistance of the masses to domination, control and loss of liberty", said by Charles Elliot Perkins, research scientist sent by the US government to take charge of IG Farben in Germany after the war. ( Do your own research on the links of the US pharmaceutical, oil and chemical companies and the ties with the Rockefellers, Carnegies and the rise of Adolph Hiter and the Nazi party. The father of the last two Bush presidents also has some very interesting ties to all of this. This shit is so fucked up!!!! There are piles of information about this! Look it up if you don't believe me. It is there for anyone to find.)
Back to fluoride. Some of the more harmful attributes of fluoride is the inhibition of enzyme activity, paralyzes white blood cells and causes collagen to break down. These are all extremely important in the bodies natural defenses against cancer. One of the first researches who determined the link between fluoride and cancer was a man by the name of Dr. John Yiamouylannis. He was a biochemist and president of the Safe Water Foundation. He concluded " fluoride is a poison! ... It has been used as a pesticide for mice, rats and other small pests. A 10 pound infant could be killed by 1/100 of an ounce and a 100 pound adult could be killed by 1/10 of an ounce of fluoride." A 7 ounce of toothpaste contains enough fluoride to kill a 25 pound child!!!!! FIND A TOOTHPASTE WITHOUT FLUORIDE!!!!!!!! Look at the at the label of most toothpastes. It says keep away from children.
Fluoride has also been linked to Alzheimer's disease. The aluminum binds with fluoride to form aluminum fluoride, with is able to pass the blood brain barrier. In 1977 studies were done by the National Cancer Institute's cell chemistry section. The results linked fluoride to 10,000 cancer deaths per year. The head of the research team said " Fluoride causes more human cancer, and causes it faster, than any other chemical" DO NOT USE ANY TOOTHPASTE OR MOUTHWASH CONTAINING FLUORIDE. STAY AWAY FROM WATER CONTAMINATED WITH FLUORIDE, GET A WATER FILTER IF YOU ARE DRINKING FROM PUBLIC WATER SUPPLY!!!!!

Dr. Rashid Buttar, the doctor treating me at the Center for Advanced Medicine came out with his book this past week. I recommend that everyone reads this if you are serious about improving your health. The book has a vast wealth of knowledge that will change your life. Everyone should have a copy of this. The information in here is critical to good health! He covers many topics critical to overall health, recovery, toxicity in the environment, exercise, nutrition etc..... He gave me the book and I finished it in two days. I could not put it down. I have done a lot of reading lately and I can honestly say this is one of the most informative books I have ever read. Most of the steps are simple and can be done at home. Some of the information is a little more in depth but there are many references to lead you in the right direction. It covers the basics on total health. The information in here will change your life for the better! You will use this book as a reference for many years to come. This doctor is many years ahead of his time. He has successfully treated patients with all types of chronic diseases that traditional medicine gave up on.

HISTORY LESSON ON BIG MEDICINE AND BIG PHARMACUETICALS
I was talking to another patient in at the clinic about the state of modern medicine. He is now paralyzed from a flu shot and has nothing but time to do research. We were talking about "traditional" vs " alternative". He brought the point that the traditional methods used in the Western world have only been used for about 100 years. For the previous six thousand or so years on this planet we relied on plants, herbs, exercise and clean food to stay healthy. Thousands of years ago, Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine said "Let thy Food be thy Medicine and thy Medicine be thy Food." I was wondering how and why we shifted so heavily to the modern age of medicine where doctors study disease, with little knowledge of actual health. I did some digging and found some very interesting information. Believe it or not, the reason this started goes back to John D Rockefeller.
Most of the information in this post came from the book CANCER STEP OUTSIDE THE BOX by TY BOLLINGER. THIS IS THE MOST INFORMATIVE BOOK ON THE CANCER INDUSTRY HANDS DOWN! I forgot how to site sources properly so this is my poor attempt to give credit where credit is due.
John D Rockefeller, the oil tycoon, had his hand in many different ventures. Two others that helped create his wealth were chemical and pharmaceutical companies. This was never mentioned growing up learning about the Rockefeller's and their vast fortunes. Rockefeller's goal was to dominate the oil, chemical and pharmaceutical markets, so Standard Oil purchased controlling interest in a huge German drug/chemical company called I. G. Farben. A little background on this company to help set up this story. I.G. Farben was the single largest donor to the election campaign of Adolph Hitler. I.G. Farben was the single largest profiteer of the German conquest of the world during WWII.
I.G. Auschwitz, a 100% subsidiary of I.G. Farben, was the largest industrial complex of the world for manufacturing gasoline and rubber for the conquest of Europe. Auschwitz used concentration camp prisoners as slave labor in their factory. When the prisoners could no longer perform their duties at work, they were shipped off to be gassed using Zyklon B, which was also made my I.G. Farben. One of the major board members of the time was quoted as saying " our new friendship with the SS is a blessing. We have determined all measures integrating the concentration camps to benefit our company." I.G. Farben used the prisoners of the concentration camps as human guinea pigs. Tens of thousands of prisoners died from testing vaccines. Pretty good bunch of people huh?
After the war, instead of being sent to prison or sentenced to death in their role in the murders of those at the Auschwitz concentration camp, the Bayer Corporation hired a number of the I.G. Farben board members to serve on their board. Fritz ter Meer, an I.G. Farben board member and convicted war criminal was appointed chairman of the board of the Bayer Corp. ( a side note on Bayer, further explaining the type of people that run these pharmaceutical companies. In the 1980's Bayer came out with a drug for hemophiliacs, it was discovered the drug was contaminated with the AIDS virus. It is well documented that Bayer new about this yet still sold it overseas. They did decide against selling it in the United States. Selling a drug contaminated with the AIDS virus to Americans is bad PR. The rest of the world, not so much. Tens of thousands were infected with AIDS and died as a result.)
This ties the story together as to why we are in our current state of prescribing drugs as the most prevalent way of treating patients. In 1910, Rockefeller felt he needed to reeducate the medical profession to prescribe more drugs. He hired a man named Abraham Flexner to travel the country and assess the success of US medical schools. The results of this study were predetermined. Flexner submitted a report to the Carnegie Foundation entitled " Medical Education in the United States and Canada." Flexner concluded that it was far too easy to start a medical school and that most medical schools were not teaching sound medicine. What he meant is that they were not prescribing enough drugs. Flexner insisted it was necessary to install a doorkeeper to determine which medical schools were allowed through the medical door and which ones would remain outside. The report was taken to Congress, they fell for the bullshit. The AMA became the doorkeeper and was empowered to determine which medical schools were properly following " the standards of conventional medicine" and which ones were not. With Rockefeller, the most powerful man on the planet, not to mention the wealthiest really pulling the strings.
The predetermined purpose of the Flexner Report was to label doctors who didn't prescribe drugs as " charlatans" and "quacks". Unbelievable this still works today. I have heard the term quack from a few doctors I know referring to the type of doctor I am currently seeing. He does not prescribe drugs, they do, huh? Rockefeller's genius is working 100 years later. I guess JD didn't become a billionaire by accident. Scandalous shit!! Medical schools that offered courses in natural therapies and homeopathy were told to either drop their courses or lose accreditation. The total number of accredited schools was cut in half between 1910 and 1944. The result of the Flexner report was that all accredited medical schools became heavily oriented toward drugs and drug research. Both of which would pad Rockefeller's pockets. This shift had nothing to do with the health of the patients, it was all about money and still is.
Dr. Samuel Epstein, author of Cancer Gate: How To Win the Losing Cancer War states over the past century the American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute and the American Medical Association have all become corroded with major institutional and personal conflicts of interest with Big Pharma. A recent NCI director who wished to be unnamed stated " the NCI has become a government pharmaceutical company". Dr Epstein states the Cancer Industry is suppressing mountains of information about environmental causes of cancer rather than making the info available to the pubic. I have to believe this to be true since the doctor I am seeing is a huge proponent of the toxic effects from the environment being the main causes of almost all chronic disease. He also uses natual treatments rather than prescribing bullshit drugs that kill patients. The clinic has received bomb threats on more than one occasion. The nurses have told me they have received death threats as well the doctor. The doctor was trained in special forces in the army previous to this so I think they are bit reluctant to try physical intimidation with him as they have with so many other doctors who have found natural ways of curing cancer. Again, do your own research, this all sounds a bit crazy, and until about two months ago I would not have believed any of it myself.
Here is a great quote by Adolph Hitler that relates to the big business of Cancer and the pharmaceutical industry in general. " If you tell a lie long enough, eventually it will believed as truth... the greater the lie, the more likely that people will believe it" 25 percent of commercials on tv are for prescription drugs. The United States is one of only 2 countries in the world where pharmaceutical companies are allowed to advertise on TV. Is this not disturbing? A profitable business will never try and eliminate itself. Do you think the pharmaceutical industry, with profits in the tens of BILLIONS per year really wants to find a safe, non toxic, cheap cure for cancer, or for anything else they make drugs for? DOUBT IT!!!!!! Would it then be reasonable to believe that they would do anything in their power to suppress their competition????????? If alternative cancer treatments were to become mainstream, millions of pharmaceutical reps and researchers would lose their jobs, shareholder profits would dry up and CEO's lose the golden parachutes. It is in the best interest of Big Pharm for you to remain in the dark to the truth about all of this. THIS IS SOME FUCKED UP SHIT!!! I would have never guessed the reason western medicine has become so corrupt started with John D Rockefeller. It all makes complete sense though! Do your own research if this is something that interests you. Ask your own questions. Like why when you go to the doctor, you get five minutes of their time and leave with a prescription virtually ever time. Auto mechanics spend more time diagnosing problems with our cars than our doctors do our bodies. Something is wrong with that!!!!!!!

This was never mentioned growing up learning about the Rockefeller's and their vast fortunes. Rockefeller's goal was to dominate the oil, chemical and pharmaceutical markets, so Standard Oil purchased controlling interest in a huge German drug/chemical company called I. G. Farben. A little background on this company to help set up this story. I.G. Farben was the single largest donor to the election campaign of Adolph Hitler. I.G. Farben was the single largest profiteer of the German conquest of the world during WWII.
I.G. Auschwitz, a 100% subsidiary of I.G. Farben, was the largest industrial complex of the world for manufacturing gasoline and rubber for the conquest of Europe. Auschwitz used concentration camp prisoners as slave labor in their factory. When the prisoners could no longer perform their duties at work, they were shipped off to be gassed using Zyklon B, which was also made my I.G. Farben. One of the major board members of the time was quoted as saying " our new friendship with the SS is a blessing. We have determined all measures integrating the concentration camps to benefit our company." I.G. Farben used the prisoners of the concentration camps as human guinea pigs. Tens of thousands of prisoners died from testing vaccines. Pretty good bunch of people huh?
After the war, instead of being sent to prison or sentenced to death in their role in the murders of those at the Auschwitz concentration camp, the Bayer Corporation hired a number of the I.G. Farben board members to serve on their board. Fritz ter Meer, an I.G. Farben board member and convicted war criminal was appointed chairman of the board of the Bayer Corp. ( a side note on Bayer, further explaining the type of people that run these pharmaceutical companies. In the 1980's Bayer came out with a drug for hemophiliacs, it was discovered the drug was contaminated with the AIDS virus. It is well documented that Bayer new about this yet still sold it overseas. They did decide against selling it in the United States. Selling a drug contaminated with the AIDS virus to Americans is bad PR. The rest of the world, not so much. Tens of thousands were infected with AIDS and died as a result.)
This ties the story together as to why we are in our current state of prescribing drugs as the most prevalent way of treating patients. In 1910, Rockefeller felt he needed to reeducate the medical profession to prescribe more drugs. He hired a man named Abraham Flexner to travel the country and assess the success of US medical schools. The results of this study were predetermined. Flexner submitted a report to the Carnegie Foundation entitled " Medical Education in the United States and Canada." Flexner concluded that it was far too easy to start a medical school and that most medical schools were not teaching sound medicine. What he meant is that they were not prescribing enough drugs. Flexner insisted it was necessary to install a doorkeeper to determine which medical schools were allowed through the medical door and which ones would remain outside. The report was taken to Congress, they fell for the bullshit. The AMA became the doorkeeper and was empowered to determine which medical schools were properly following " the standards of conventional medicine" and which ones were not. With Rockefeller, the most powerful man on the planet, not to mention the wealthiest really pulling the strings.
The predetermined purpose of the Flexner Report was to label doctors who didn't prescribe drugs as " charlatans" and "quacks". Unbelievable this still works today. I have heard the term quack from a few doctors I know referring to the type of doctor I am currently seeing. He does not prescribe drugs, they do, huh? Rockefeller's genius is working 100 years later. I guess JD didn't become a billionaire by accident. Scandalous shit!! Medical schools that offered courses in natural therapies and homeopathy were told to either drop their courses or lose accreditation. The total number of accredited schools was cut in half between 1910 and 1944. The result of the Flexner report was that all accredited medical schools became heavily oriented toward drugs and drug research. Both of which would pad Rockefeller's pockets. This shift had nothing to do with the health of the patients, it was all about money and still is.
Dr. Samuel Epstein, author of Cancer Gate: How To Win the Losing Cancer War states over the past century the American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute and the American Medical Association have all become corroded with major institutional and personal conflicts of interest with Big Pharma. A recent NCI director who wished to be unnamed stated " the NCI has become a government pharmaceutical company". Dr Epstein states the Cancer Industry is suppressing mountains of information about environmental causes of cancer rather than making the info available to the pubic. I have to believe this to be true since the doctor I am seeing is a huge proponent of the toxic effects from the environment being the main causes of almost all chronic disease. He also uses natual treatments rather than prescribing bullshit drugs that kill patients. The clinic has received bomb threats on more than one occasion. The nurses have told me they have received death threats as well the doctor. The doctor was trained in special forces in the army previous to this so I think they are bit reluctant to try physical intimidation with him as they have with so many other doctors who have found natural ways of curing cancer. Again, do your own research, this all sounds a bit crazy, and until about two months ago I would not have believed any of it myself.

I would have never guessed the reason western medicine has become so corrupt started with John D Rockefeller. It all makes complete sense though! Hello boys and girls. It has been a little while since my last post. I am happy to say that today was my last day of the first round of treatments. I went through 4 weeks, with two to three off then another four. I was hoping to be done after the fourth week but that is not the case. The doctor is extremely pleased with the progress. He believes everything is going as well as he could have imagined. The spot on my leg where the melanoma was is changing dramatically. It was removed, then grew back in about two weeks. We began treatment and the area scabbed up and turned completely black and swelled up( The staff has seen a lot of types of cancers and said it usually looks black like my leg did for a while) . It then fell apart and scabbed over again a few days later. About a week and a half ago the black fell off, the area swelled even more and began to bleed. Right now it looks like a large mosquito bite, bleeding intermittently. They said that healthy blood flow is finally returning to the area. It has been amazing to watch over the last few weeks. They have done nothing externally to cause any of this. It is all happening from the inside. The doctor predicted the exact chain of events that has happened if the treatment was working. He is either psychic or knows what he is doing. I am still feeling great! I had a few bad days after I was given the AARSOTA shots, which had some severe reactions but that is a good thing. Other than that, it was probably as painless a month as you can have for someone diagnosed and going through treatment for a stage 4 cancer. I am glad it is over! It will be nice to get back to Cleveland for a while and see everyone!
The phase will start in two to three weeks. They are sending samples to a lab to make another round of AARSOTA's. Cancer is highly adaptable so they want to change it up to throw it off. I suspect I could walk away from the treatment now and be okay but I am not going to take the risk. When you have an enemy that is trying to kill you on the ground, it is best to finish them off rather than give it a chance to recuperate and attack again. I am taking a ridiculous amount of supplements and have started on some new ones. Other than that I am free to do whatever for the next few weeks. Although I can't play golf because of the pic line in my arm, and I can no longer drink, stay out late and chase women, I need to find some new hobbies. Any suggestions? What do you people do for fun?
I had my two sisters Mreeen and Clean in this week. It was nice to see them and very helpful to have them here for a few days! I was not feeling well Wednesday and Thursday from the last AARSOTA. It was nice to have a chauffeur, cook, cleaner and re decorator here for a few days. I want to thank all of you again for your kind words, e mails, texts, support, packages etc.... I need to especially thank my Charlotte nurses, taxi drivers and cooks, Johnna, Nick, Steph, and Piper. I also need to of course thank my DAD. Best dad in the world! Dad has been so supportive it is unbelievable. He has stood by my decision 100 percent of the way. He may have thought I was crazy probably like a bunch of have for choosing my treatment but he never said anything. ( JUST TO BE CLEAR, THE DECISION I MADE WAS THE CORRECT ONE NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE ELSE THINKS. IN A MONTH WHEN I AM DECLARED CANCER FREE AND HEALTHIER THAN BEFORE, THAT WILL BECOME EVIDENT!) Having unconditional support like that is a MUST in this type of situation. I hope all of you remember this if you are faced with this difficult decision with a family member or friend. A lot of you have made some large sacrifices for me over the last month or so and I am very grateful!!!!!!!!!!! Too many of you have been so helpful, the list is to long to mention you all by names. You know who you are. Even if I have not heard from you and have the benefit of receiving your thoughts and prayers, that is plenty! You all have made what could have been a difficult time much easier and a great learning experience. If I would have went the traditional route I would be sick in a bed every day receiving chemo with my head still buried in the sand like I was two months ago regarding the TRUTH! You would not be reading this blog and all of this information would not have been passed on. I hope the information has been useful. I have gotten some good feedback so far. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT TILL YOU HAVE A CANCER DIAGNOSIS TO MAKE SOME POSITIVE, HEALTHY CHANGES TO YOUR LIFESTYLE!!!!!! AWARENESS IS KEY!!!!!! MOST SUNSCREEN ARE POISON AS WELL!!!!!!!
This article was sent to me by my grandmother and my brother Rueben. This is the exact same thing my doctor told me about it. Funny that all of my other doctors, including dermatologists encouraged using this garbage. Read the ingredients of the sunscreen you are using. I have been using Coppertone for the last ten or so years. There are about 30 ingredients and I did not recognize one of them. Rubbing toxic substances on your skin every day and then having them absorbed into your blood is sure to cause problems. I am sure rubbing this poison on my skin daily is one of the many reasons that I developed this melanoma. Your best bet is to check cosmeticdatabase.com. The website has lists of non toxic sunscreens. They are not the ones you are currently using!

AOL News also has learned through documents and interviews that the Food and Drug Administration has known of the potential danger for as long as a decade without alerting the public, which the FDA denies.The study was released with Memorial Day weekend approaching. Store shelves throughout the country are already crammed with tubes, jars, bottles and spray cans of sunscreen.The white goop, creams and ointments might prevent sunburn. But don't count on them to keep the ultraviolet light from destroying your skin cells and causing tumors and lesions, according to researchers at Environmental Working Group.In their annual report to consumers on sunscreen, they say that only 39 of the 500 products they examined were considered safe and effective to use.The report cites these problems with bogus sun protection factor (SPF) numbers:
The use of the hormone-disrupting chemical oxybenzone, which penetrates the skin and enters the bloodstream.

"In that yearlong study, tumors and lesions developed up to 21 percent faster in lab animals coated in a vitamin A-laced cream than animals treated with a vitamin-free cream," the report said. The conclusion came from EWG's analysis of initial findings released last fall by the FDA and the National Toxicology Program, the federal government's principle evaluator of substances that raise public health concerns.EWG's conclusions were subsequently scrutinized by outside toxicologists.Based on the strength of the findings by FDA's own scientists, many in the public health community say they can't believe nor understand why the agency hasn't already notified the public of the possible danger."There was enough evidence 10 years ago for FDA to caution consumers against the use of vitamin A in sunscreens," Jane Houlihan, EWG's senior vice president for research, told AOL News."FDA launched this one-year study, completed their research and now 10 years later, they say nothing about it, just silence."On Friday, the FDA said the allegations are not true."We have thoroughly checked and are not aware of any studies," an FDA spokesperson told AOL News. She said she checked with bosses throughout the agency and found no one who knew of the vitamin A sunscreen research being done by or on behalf of the agency. "People apply about a quarter of the recommended amount. So in everyday practice, a product labeled SPF 100 really performs like SPF 3.2, an SPF 30 rating equates to a 2.3 and an SPF 15 translates to 2."In 2007, the report says, the FDA published proposed regulations that would prohibit manufacturers from labeling sunscreens with an SPF higher than "SPF 50." The agency wrote that higher values would be "inherently misleading," given that "there is no assurance that the specific values themselves are in fact truthful."This is being widely ignored by the sunscreen makers who are heavily advertising their 80, 90 and 100 SPF products. "Flouting FDA's proposed regulation," companies substantially increased their high-SPF offerings in 2010 with one in six brands now listing SPF values higher than 50. So today, drugstore shelves are crammed with sunscreens boasting SPFs of 30, 45, 80 or even higher. However, the new report says those numbers are often meaningless and dangerous because products with high SPF ratings sell a false sense of security, encouraging people using them to stay out in the sun longer."People don't get the high SPF they pay for," the report says. "People apply about a quarter of the recommended amount. So in everyday practice, a product labeled SPF 100 really performs like SPF 3.2, an SPF 30 rating equates to a 2.3 and an SPF 15 translates to 2."In 2007, the report says, the FDA published proposed regulations that would prohibit manufacturers from labeling sunscreens with an SPF higher than "SPF 50." The agency wrote that higher values would be "inherently misleading," given that "there is no assurance that the specific values themselves are in fact truthful."This is being widely ignored by the sunscreen makers who are heavily advertising their 80, 90 and 100 SPF products. "Flouting FDA's proposed regulation," companies substantially increased their high-SPF offerings in 2010 with one in six brands now listing SPF values higher than 50. "Neutrogena and Banana Boat stand out among the offenders, with six and four products labeled as 'SPF 100,' respectively," the new report says.The full list of the best and worst sunscreens can be found on the EWG's searchable database.
